Choose your state
What a course can do for a ticket depends on the state where you got it.
Texas: Defensive driving dismisses the ticket
Request by your answer date, finish within 90 days. Once every 12 months.
Florida: Traffic school keeps points off
Elect within 30 days with the county clerk. 18% off the civil penalty.
New Jersey: Defensive driving takes off 2 points
Doesn’t dismiss the ticket, but earns at least 5% off insurance for 3 years.
Before you pay your ticket
Find the deadline
Look for the answer or appearance date on your citation. In Texas you must ask for the course by then.
Check you qualify
CDL holders, high speeds and some offenses are excluded, and there are limits on how often you can use a course.
Use an approved course
Only a course approved by the state counts. We link to the official approved lists.
